On September 14, an exhibition of works by Ivan Aivazovsky (Hovhannes Ayvazyan), timed to the 200th anniversary of the artist’s birth, will open in the National Art Gallery of Armenia. About it reports a press-service of the National Art Gallery of Armenia. September 15-16 an international conference will be held, where specialists from a number of countries will discuss the role and significance of Aivazovsky’s work. Initially it was planned that the exhibition in Yerevan would open in May, but for technical reasons it was decided to postpone it until September. In addition to 70 works of the artist, stored in the National Art Gallery of Armenia, the exhibition will also feature 16 paintings from the Tretyakov Gallery, Peterhof and the Russian Museum.
Visitors of the exhibition will also be able to see the famous painting of Aivazovsky’s “Chaos”, which is kept in the Museum of the Armenian Congregation of Mekhitarists (St. Lazarus Island, Venice). It is planned that the exhibition will go on for four months. As noted by the Director of the National gallery Arman Tsaturyan, also planned to present the works of Aivazovsky, which not previously shown, i.e. from the collections of the gallery.
