Day 1: Yerevan City — tour

  • Arrival to «Zvartnots» International Airport. Our guide will meet you at the airport. Transfer to the hotel in Yerevan.
  • Panoramic tour round Yerevan city — the ancient capital of Armenia, which is 29 years older than Rome. Tour Itinerary: «Mother Armenia» monument offers a nice overview of the whole city, the Opera House, Republic  Square, «Cascade» architectural complex, the Museum of Contemporary Art named Cafesjian, the monument to the hero of «David Sasuntsi» Armenian epos.
  • Lunch in Yerevan (Armenian traditional restaurant).
  • Visiting «Tsitsernakaberd» Memorial and the Armenian Genocide Museum of 1915.
  • Transfer to the hotel. Free time.

 

Day 2: Yerevan — Garni — Gegard — Havuts Tar — Yerevan

  •  Breakfast at the hotel.
  • A trip to the village of Garni. Hiking tour to Havuts Tar monastery, which was an important spiritual and cultural center of medieval Armenia. (11 – 13 centuries.) (1622 m above sea level) (The distance – 7 km, duration – 2.5 hours).
  • Trip to Garni — Symphony of Armenian architecture. It is the only surviving pagan temple in Armenia. Built in the Hellenistic style in the 1st century by the Armenian King Trdat I and dedicated to the God of the Sun Mithras.
  • Visiting the monastery Geghard (12 – 13th centuries). It is a unique monastery complex, where the temple is completely carved in the rock. The name «Geghard» literally «the monastery of the spear» is due to the fact that in this place Christian relic — the spear, which, according to tradition, a Roman soldier had pierced the crucified Jesus with was kept (now kept in the Museum of Echmiadzin).
  • Lunch at the restaurant above the gorge of the Azat river and demonstration baking «lavash» — traditional Armenian bread in the tonir (oven in the ground).
  • Return to Yerevan. Transfer to the hotel. Free time.

 

Day 3: Yerevan — Khor Virap — Wine Factory «Areni»  «Bird Cave» — Noravank — Proshaberd — Hermon

  •  Breakfast at the hotel. Check out from the hotel.
  • Tour to Khor Virap monastery (literally translated as «deep dungeon») (7 – 17th centuries). You will see the underground pit where the first Patriarch of Armenian Apostolic Church St. Grigor Lusavorich (Saint Gregory the Illuminator) languished in prison for 13 years. The monastery is located 50 km away from Yerevan on the Armenian — Turkish border. You will enjoy the wonderful view of the Biblical Mount Ararat.
  • Excursion to the winery in Areni village, where wine from local grapes is produced (wine tasting).
  • A trip to the karst caves in Areni, also known as the «Bird’s Cave», where a 5500 year – old leather shoe was found.
  • Trip to Noravank monastery (9 – 13th centuries) is one of the most magnificent medieval monuments of Armenia, located on the ledge of narrow winding gorge with rare red rocks. This is truly a masterpiece of Armenian architecture.
  • Lunch in the refectory of Noravank monastery.
  • Hike to the Proshaberd castle (Boloraberd, 13th century) — one of the most famous castles in Vayots Dzor. The fortress was intended to protect the city from the south Yeghegis, and the location on the top of the hill made it impregnable. The fortress fell during the Seljuk invasion in the 13th century (distance – 10 km, duration – 2.5 hours).
  • A trip to the village of Hermon. Dinner and overnight.

 

 

Day 4: Hermon — Smbataberd Fortress — Tsakhats Kar — Selim — Dilijan

  •  Breakfast at the hotel. Check out from the hotel.
  • Walk on Yeghegis village, which was one of the richest cities in Armenia and in the XIII-XIV centuries the residence of princes Orbelian Dynasty (Proshyanov). You will also see old Jewish cemetery and a small church.
  • Hike to Smbataberd castle (10 in.) — one of the oldest and largest castles of Vayots Dzor and Syunik (1930 m above sea level).
  • Walking tour to Tsakhats Kar monastery (2087 m above sea level) (distance – 12 km, duration – 5 hours), which impresses with its interesting architecture and high relief. It offers beautiful views of the castle.
  • A trip to Selim caravanserai (Inn) (2410 m above sea level), which was built along the mountain pass of Vardenyats in 1332 to accommodate weary travelers and their animals travelling along the silk road from Eastern Asia to the Mediterranean and back.
  • Trip to Dilijan town. Dinner and overnight.

 

 

Day 5: Dilijan — Parz Lich — Goshavank — Sevan — Yerevan

  •  Breakfast at the hotel. Check out from the hotel.
  • A trip to the Parz Lich lake (1300 m above the sea level). It is a small lake located high in the mountains of Armenia, closely surrounded by dense forests and is justly considered the most beautiful place in the country. The maximum depth of the lake is only 5 meters, but the water is so clear that the lake is called «clear» or «transparent».
  • Hiking to Goshavank monastery (12th century), which was one of the most famous spiritual and educational centers of medieval Armenia, where the great Armenian scholar, jurist and the Chronicles of Mkhitar Gosh had lived and worked for 25 years. (Distance — 10 km, duration — 3, 5 hours)
  • Drive to Lake Sevan, which is the pearl of Armenia and the largest freshwater basin in Eurasia and the second largest Alpine lake in the world. Sevan is situated at an altitude of 1900 meters above sea level. Visiting Sevanavank monastery (9th century).
  • Lunch in Sevan (tasting fish from the lake).
  • Return to Yerevan. Transfer to the hotel. Free time.

 

Day 6: Transfer to the airport. Departure.
