Day 1: Yerevan — Lake Kari — Mount Aragats — Amberd Fortress — Armenian Alphabet Memorial — Yerevan

Departure from Yerevan. If your hotel is located in Yerevan, our transport will pick you up directly from your hotel to ensure a comfortable and convenient start to your journey.

Our adventure begins with a trip to one of Armenia’s most scenic spots — Lake Kari, located at an altitude of 3,200 meters. This crystal-clear mountain lake, fed by melting snow, reaches a depth of around 9 meters. Here, we will enjoy breathtaking panoramic views and prepare for the ascent.

From Lake Kari, we will start the climb to the Southern Summit of Mount Aragats. The ascent takes approximately 5–6 hours and will be accompanied by an experienced mountain guide. The Southern Summit, at 3,887 meters, is considered the most accessible of the four peaks, yet the journey offers unforgettable emotions and spectacular views.

Recommended gear: a comfortable backpack, sportswear with moisture protection, personal first aid kit, sturdy hiking boots, and additional warm clothing.

After a successful ascent and descent, we will enjoy a picnic in nature. Lunch can also be pre-arranged upon request.

Next, we will visit Amberd Fortress (literally “Fortress of Clouds”), dating back to the 10th century. It is a striking example of medieval Armenian architecture and one of the few surviving feudal castles in Armenia. Nestled in a beautiful deep gorge halfway up Mount Aragats (the highest mountain in Armenia at 4,096 m), Amberd harmoniously blends with the surrounding landscape. Nearby stands the picturesque Vahramashen Church, perched above the gorge.

Our journey concludes with a visit to the Armenian Alphabet Memorial Complex. Established at the eastern foot of Mount Aragats in 2005, this unique monument features stone sculptures of all 39 letters of the Armenian alphabet, as well as monuments to prominent Armenian figures. Created to commemorate the 1,600th anniversary of Armenian writing, the complex is a significant cultural landmark.
