Shaki waterfall
Shaki Waterfall is a spectacular natural attraction in the Syunik region of southern Armenia, located on the Vorotan River. With a height of 18 meters, the waterfall creates a breathtaking cascade that enchants visitors throughout the year. The waterfall is not only a scenic wonder but also part of a hydroelectric system supplying energy to nearby communities. Shaki village, just 3 km northwest of Sisian, hosts the waterfall, making it the heart of the local landscape and a natural gem of the region. Legend adds a magical touch to the site: long ago, a beautiful Armenian girl named Shaki, with striking black eyes and long curly hair, lived here. During the invasion of Tamerlane, soldiers were captivated by her beauty and sought to capture her. Fiercely valuing her freedom, Shaki fled and leaped into the Vorotan Gorge. Her fall, plunging 18 meters, is said to have formed the waterfall, her cascading hair mirrored in the water’s flow.
Today, Shaki Waterfall is celebrated as one of the “7 Wonders” of the region, drawing nature lovers, photographers, and adventurers who come to witness its year-round beauty.
