Spitakavor church
Spitakavor Monastery is a small monastic complex located high above the town of Yeghegnadzor, near the historic Boleraberd Fortress. Surrounded by mountain landscapes, the monastery offers impressive views of the Vayots Dzor region. The road leading to the monastery is in rather poor condition, so if you have enough time, hiking to the site can be a pleasant alternative and an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful scenery of the area. To reach Spitakavor, travel from Yeghegnadzor to the village of Vernashen. Shortly after passing the Gladzor University Museum, turn left. Continue until the dirt road ends at another dirt road, then turn left again, and shortly afterward turn right just before the first house on the right side of the road. Following this road will lead you all the way up to Spitakavor Monastery and the nearby Boleraberd Fortress. Despite the challenging road, the journey to Spitakavor rewards visitors with breathtaking views and a chance to explore one of the region’s lesser-known historical monuments.
