Karmravor church

Karmravor Church, located in the town of Ashtarak in the Aragatsotn region, was built in the mid-7th century and stands as a remarkable example of early medieval Armenian architecture. The church features a domed design, where the square sub-dome space transitions elegantly into the octahedral drum of the dome, supported by four main squinches. Faint traces of wall ornamentation are still visible beneath the whitewashed walls, hinting at the artistry of its original decoration. One of Karmravor’s most striking features is its ancient tiled spherical roof, which has survived intact for over a millennium. Despite its modest size, the church’s harmonious proportions and architectural precision make it a significant and cherished monument.
