Odzun church

The Odzun Church is an impressive domed basilica built in the mid-6th century and is considered one of the remarkable examples of early medieval Armenian architecture. The church has a rectangular plan oriented toward the east. At the center of the interior space stand four massive pylons, which support the dome resting on an octagonal drum. This architectural design creates a spacious and harmonious interior. Arcaded galleries extend along all the facades of the building, with the exception of the eastern side. The exterior of the church is decorated with sculptural reliefs, particularly around the window frames, adding elegance and artistic detail to the structure. Over the centuries, the church underwent several renovations. The entire roof was rebuilt, and small belfries were added during later restoration works. Today, Odzun Church remains an important historical and architectural monument, reflecting the rich tradition of early Armenian ecclesiastical architecture.
