Kosh fortress
The medieval Kosh Fortress dates back to the 13th century and is located on the top of a hill in the northern part of the village of Kosh. From this elevated position, the fortress once controlled the surrounding valleys and served as an important defensive stronghold. The fortress has a rectangular layout with angular corners and circular towers that strengthen its defensive structure. Its walls were built from large, carefully cut blocks of tuff stone, while the lower sections consist of rough-hewn basalt blocks, adding extra durability to the construction. There are two main entrances, located on the northern and southern sides of the fortress. Both are designed with covered corridor passages, which provided additional protection and controlled access to the interior.
Today, the ruins of Kosh Fortress remain an impressive example of medieval Armenian military architecture, standing above the village and reflecting the strategic planning and construction techniques of the period.
