Berdavan fortress
The medieval Berdavan Fortress is located near the village of Berdavan, not far from the town of Koghb. The fortress is believed to have been originally constructed during the 10th–11th centuries and later rebuilt in the 17th century. Although the structure is relatively small, Berdavan Fortress remains an attractive example of medieval Armenian defensive architecture. The fortress stands close to the modern border with Azerbaijan, and visitors are advised not to wander far from the main site. The village of Berdavan, once known as Kalacha, also preserves several large khachkars (cross-stones) that reflect the rich historical heritage of the region. A nearby mountain road leads toward the ruins of the Ghalinjakar Fortress, another medieval stronghold located on a hill near the border.
Today, Berdavan Fortress offers visitors a quiet but historically significant glimpse into the defensive network that once protected Armenia’s northern frontier.
