The Erebuni Fortress was an Urartrian stronghold, founded in the last quarter of the 8th century. B.C. by King Argishti I. Located within the Yerevan city limits, the striking archeological remains are an excellent reminder that the bustling capital of Armenia has been continuously inhabited by its denizens for three thousand years. Excavations have revealed a veritable treasure trove of archeological discoveries. On the extensive premises one can firsthand behold palaces, temples, and domiciles from antiquity. Renovations to restore certain buildings and walls are currently underway at this impressive site. Certain well-preserved items are showcased at the State Museum of Armenian History in Yerevan.
